Alton Town Hall was constructed in 1894. According to author, Thomas D'Agostino, the building has quite a haunted reputation.

The prominent brick building, and in particular its clock tower, has had its fair share of unusual activity. The sounds of footsteps ascending the tower have been reported at night, and as a result the police have been called on a number of occasions to check the premises - only to find no living soul inside. Police dogs have reacted in a strange manner whilst checking the interior.

Voices and the sounds of chairs being moved have also been reported coming from empty rooms.
